18 years without Ayrton Senna
He was of one of the greatest legends in world sport
Ayrton Senna da Silva died on 1st May 1994 during the San Marino Grande Prix in Imola (Italy) . The idol’s funeral stopped the country and led hundreds of thousands of people to the streets. It was one of the biggest shows of emotion in the history of Brazil . He was born in São Paulo on 21st March 1960 . He made his Formula One debut in 1984 and the following year inPortugal achieved his first F1 victory. In a ten-year career Senna won 41 races and was Champion of the World three times (’88, ’90 and ’91). At that time he was considered one of the three best drivers in the history of F1, beside the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio and Jim Clark. On the track, Senna collected rivalries and enemies with drivers such as Nelson Piquet and Alain Prost. Off the track, Senna had romances with beautiful and famous women such as Adriane Galisteu and Xuxa.
Faith and social concern
In the spiritual field Senna made it clear how important faith was in his life. In conversations with his sister Viviane, Senna spoke of his desire to create a foundation to help needy young people and children. In November 1994, Viviane granted her brother’s wish and opened the Ayrton Senna Institute. In almost 15 years of activity, the institute has helped more than 4 million young people and children.
